A 4 mukhi Rudraksha has four compartments and its top view is squarish in shape, 5 mukhi Rudraksha has five compartments and its top view is pentagonal, 6 mukhi has six compartments and its top view is hexagonal so for the same reason two mukhi has full ellipse view from top and 1 mukhi Rudraksha must have half ellipse top view. Thus, ek mukhi from Java is only authentic variety of ek mukhi rudraksha to be found till date.

The ek mukhi Rudraksha round-shaped bead is the biggest fake ek mukhi sold to buyers. Some sellers first rub a five mukhi Rudraksha to fade away the mukhi lines and then carve a line on the Rudraksha to make it appear like a Rudraksha with one mukhi line. A stem is also glued to it to make it appear as a natural bead plucked from the tree.

The ek mukhi beads which are available in half-moon cashew shape are not the real ek mukhi Rudraksha from Nepal but are sourced from Sri Lanka and South India and they are of the different species known as Bhadraksha. It is lighter in weight than Rudraksha and has grooves in the shape of whorls, rather than thorns, similar to the human brain. The Bhadraksha seed resembles a mango seed, and drilling a hole in it causes the seeds to shatter. There are no strict rules for wearing one mukhi Rudraksha. However, it is recommended to wear an energized 1 mukhi Rudraksha bead. When you are wearing it for the first time, choose to do so on a Monday or any auspicious day. Get up early on a Monday morning, bathe and wear clean clothes. Now sit facing the East direction and chant the Mantra 'AUM NAMAH SHIVAYA' OR 'AUM HREEM NAMAH' 108 times and wear the Rudraksha. KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY AN ORIGINAL 1 MUKHI RUDRAKSHA

In order to test and identify if the 1 mukhi Rudraksha is original or not closely look at the Rudraksha and check: If the mukhi lines are complete, running from head to tail without any interruption. Also check if the bead has any cracks or is tampered. Also check if the beads are healthy, lustrous, heavy and not infested by moulds or any insect holes.

Another way to test is by putting the Rudraksha bead inside a glass full of warm water for an hour or two. Then remove this bead and check whether the water is clean and does not have any germs. Check whether the bead is still solid and does not leave glued surfaces. Also check closely if the bead has any tiny holes. If the bead is original put it to dry and later wear it according to the process mentioned above.

These test however are not most conclusive test. An X-ray of the bead is the most conclusive test for Rudraksha as you can see the seeds and compartments.
