Pitru Dosha Nivaran Puja is done to rectify the Pitru Dosha in one's horoscope. The Pitru Dosha is caused when one's forefathers and ancestors have not received proper last rites or Shradha or are unhappy or unfulfilled for some reason and also due to negative deeds of one's forefathers. Pitru Dosha can lead to many hardships in life and thus Pitru Dosha Nivaran Puja is recommended for a happy and peaceful worldly life and for attainment of peace for the departed souls of one's ancestors. Brahat parashar (BPHS) gives 14 kinds of Pitru-dosh and in Vedic astrology Rahu is considered the main cause of this Dosha.
Performing the Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja on the banks of the River Ganga is highly significant in Hindu tradition. It combines the spiritual purity of the Ganga with time-honored rituals to appease ancestral spirits, offering peace, resolution of familial issues, and spiritual liberation. The practice is deeply rooted in scriptural endorsements and the collective faith of devotees, making it a potent remedy for Pitru Dosh.
The River Ganga is considered the holiest river in Hinduism. It is believed that bathing in or performing rituals by the Ganga can purify one's sins and grant moksha (liberation) to departed souls.
Conducting the Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja on the banks of the Ganga helps in purifying the karmic debts associated with one's ancestors, aiding in their peaceful transition to the afterlife.
Performing rituals on the banks of the Ganga is believed to facilitate a direct connection with the spirits of ancestors. The sanctity of the river amplifies the effectiveness of the rituals.
Offerings made during the puja are thought to reach the ancestors more effectively, bringing peace to their souls and mitigating the Pitru Dosh.
Shradh (rituals performed in honor of ancestors) and Tarpan (offering water to ancestors) are integral parts of the Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja. These rituals are especially potent when performed at sacred sites like the banks of the Ganga.
The act of offering water (Tarpan) from the Ganga is believed to satisfy the ancestors' souls and alleviate any dosh (faults) caused by their dissatisfaction.
The Ganga is referred to as "Moksha Dayini," meaning "the giver of liberation." Performing the puja here enhances the auspiciousness and ensures the rituals are conducted in an environment charged with spiritual energy.
Many Hindu scriptures and saints have emphasized the importance of performing ancestral rites by the Ganga to ensure the ancestors' blessings and the family's overall well-being.
Performing these rituals provides peace of mind to the living descendants, as they believe they have fulfilled their duties towards their ancestors.
The act of performing the puja in a sacred, serene environment like the banks of the Ganga can be spiritually uplifting and provide emotional solace.
Pitru Dosh is often associated with various familial and personal issues, such as financial problems, health issues, and disharmony. Performing the puja is believed to resolve these issues by appeasing the ancestral spirits.
The collective belief in the community enhances the perceived effectiveness of the rituals, promoting a sense of communal and familial harmony.
Various Vedic and Puranic texts mention the significance of the Ganga and recommend performing ancestral rites on its banks for maximum spiritual benefit.
Scriptures like the Garuda Purana highlight the importance of offering pinda (rice balls) and conducting Tarpan rituals at sacred rivers, especially the Ganga, to alleviate ancestral curses and doshas.
