Lord Muruga, who is known in Tamil literature as Kurinjithalaivan, the lord who lives on every hill, kumaravael, Guruparan, Guhan and other innumerable names, is the favorite god of millions of people of Tamilnadu. He dwells on the six hills and showers his grace on all those who turn to him with love and devotion. 

The six hills where he resides are namely Thirupparangudram, Thiruchendur,Thiruvavinnankudi or Palani, as it is commonly known, Thiruveragam or swamimalai,Tiruttaniand Pazhamudircholai is also known as Azhagarkoil. The glory of the lord in these six hills is being described by the great poet Nakeera in Thirumurugatruppadai and the age of this literature is traced to the sangam period.
