Vishu Kani Konna Plant

Kanni konna also known as Cassia fistula or golden shower tree is flowering plant native to Indian subcontinent. It grows as semi-evergreen tree up to 20 meters and profusely flowers from April to September. Suitable to be grown in average to medium moisture soil with slight tolerance to drought and brief light frost, it is spreads its branches in form of open crown when fully grown. The yellow flowers of Kani Konna are associated with Lord Krishna and are used in puja during Vishu (New Year festival of Kerala). The flowers signify the sun and represent prosperity and abundance.
