Ashadh Navratri, also known as Gupt Navratri, is a nine-day festival dedicated to the nine forms of Shakti during the Hindu month of Ashadh. In 2024 it falls on July 06 and ends on July 15, 2024 Monday.  This observance takes place during the waxing phase of the moon. It is referred to as "Gupt" or secret because, since ancient Vedic times, this Navratri has been known to only a few ‘Sadhaks’ and Sages. They believe that performing ‘Tantric Sadhana’ of Goddess Durga during this period will significantly enhance the power of their Sadhanas and Mantras, granting them Siddhis. Tantric puja is performed during this time to invoke the Goddess to bestow devotees with spiritual upliftment, material wealth, supreme powers, and success.

Goddess Varahi, the consort of Lord Varaha (the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu), is worshipped in Ashadh Navratri at night. She is regarded as a manifestation of Shakti and one of the eight Matrikas (Mother Goddesses) who slay demons. She was born from the body of Lord Varaha, has the face of a boar, and is often depicted with eight arms holding Shankh, Chakra, Gada, Sword, Shield, Noose, Lotus, and Kamandal. Considered the epitome of Gnana (Knowledge) and a supreme protector for her devotees, she is a focal point in Tantric Sadhana. Worshiping her especially during Gupt Navratri bestows devotees with relief from negativity, evil eye, ill health, accidents, and bad karma. She provides protection and relief from negativity and mishaps and bestows longevity, knowledge, victory, a prosperous life, and spiritual progress.

Varahi Devi is described as the Goddess of darkness and the ideal time recommended to worship her is after sunset and usually in the middle of the night. She is the regent of the Northern direction and is revered by most Hindu sects, including Vaishnavas, Shaivas, and Shaktas. She is associated with the Manipura Chakra, which is the third primary chakra according to tantric traditions. Worshipping her helps in balancing and empowering this chakra, leading to a sense of inner strength and confidence. The Goddess is revered by devotees as the granter of boons and destroyer of enemies. She is also a focal point of Tantric worship, and people pray to her to lead a long and prosperous life.

Key points about the significance of Ashadh Navratri:

  1. Tantric Emphasis: This period is particularly significant for those engaged in Tantric practices. It is considered an auspicious period for performing rituals to gain spiritual power, knowledge, and Siddhis (supernatural abilities).
  2. Private and Hidden Practices: Unlike the more widely celebrated Chaitra and Sharad Navratris, Ashad Navratri is observed more privately. The rituals and worship are often conducted in a more secluded and secretive manner, hence the name "Gupt" (hidden).
  3. Spiritual Deepening: This period is ideal for deep meditation, intense Sadhana (spiritual practice), and other spiritual activities that facilitate personal transformation and inner growth.
  4. Worship of Fierce Goddesses: Devotees worship fierce and powerful forms of the Goddess, such as Goddess Varahi, during Ashadh Navratri. These forms are invoked for their protective and transformative energies.

Significance of Worshipping Goddess Varahi:

  1. Fierce Protector: Goddess Varahi, one of the Sapta Matrikas, is revered as a powerful protector. She is depicted with the face of a boar, symbolizing her strength and ability to vanquish evil.
  2. Tantric Deity: In tantric traditions, Varahi is worshipped for her ability to grant spiritual powers and remove obstacles. Her worship during Ashadh Navratri is particularly potent for those seeking to enhance their spiritual practices.
  3. Destruction of Negativity: Varahi's fierce form is believed to destroy negative influences and energies. Worshipping her helps devotees overcome fear, negativity, and challenges in life.
  4. Night Time Rituals: Varahi is associated with the night and is often worshipped during nighttime rituals. This emphasizes her role as a guardian and protector, particularly in overcoming the darkness within and around us.
  5. Empowerment and Protection: Devotees seek Varahi's blessings for protection, empowerment, and spiritual resilience. Her worship is aimed at invoking her fierce energy to safeguard and empower the worshipper.

Observing Ashadh Navratri and worshipping Goddess Varahi during this period is a way to connect deeply with the divine feminine energy, seeking both protection and spiritual empowerment.
