ABOUT BRAHMACHARINI MAA:

Navratri Second Day Puja:-
Navratri is celebrated The Navaratri second day puja is dedicated to Brahmacharni Maa or Goddess Brahmacharini, who is the second manifestation of Maa Durga or Parvati. She is also known as Devi Yogni and Devi Tapsvini and Maa Brahmacharini puja is the 2nd Navratri puja. Durga Puja 2nd day is the 7th day of Navratri and Goddess Durga in Her original form is worshipped, whereas Navratri 2nd day puja is Goddess Brahmacharini puja.

'Brahma' means penance and 'Charini' means the one whose behaviour is such, so, Brahmacharni Maa is one who practices penance and austerity . Goddess Parvati was a great Tapasvini. When the maiden Goddess Parvati decided that She will want Lord Shiva to be Her husband, Lord Shiva was in deep meditation for a long period of time. In order to marry Lord Shiva She did rigorous penance and performed severe austerity. This unmarried/maiden meditating form of Maa Parvati is worshipped as Brahmacharni Maa. It is said - Veda, Tattva and Tapa are synonyms for Brahma. The form of Brahmacharini Maa is tremendously effulgent, calm and extremely majestic. It is also believed that Brahmacharini Maa continued Her penance, austerity and asceticism for thousands of years and ate only Bilva leaves to survive, suffered extreme weather conditions, slept on the ground in the open. Legend says that Lord Shiva, in disguise, once tried to dissuade Brahmacharini Maa from pursuing the kind of penance that She was doing but Brahmacharini Maa was unshaken in Her resolution. Till many hundreds of years, Brahmacharini Maa abstained from water and food. In this way, the Divine Mother devoted herself completely in worship of Lord Shiva. This great Tapa(penance) glorified Her with the name 'Brahmacharini' and pleased Lord Shiva and He became Her Divine consort.

Brahmacharini Maa is depicted holding a Kamandal or water pot in her left hand and Japa Mala (Rosary) in right. She wears White Saree with bright-Orange border and Rudraksh as ornament and is very graceful. She personifies love and loyalty. Brahmacharini Maa is an epitome of knowledge and wisdom. Brahmacharini puja inculcates in the devotee capability of doing severe penance, attitude of renouncement, dispassion, ethical conduct and restraint. Even in the most critical periods of struggle the mind remains unshaken and the devotee does not deviate from the path of duty. By the grace of Brahmacharini Maa the devotee is sure to get success and victory always and everywhere. Brahmacharini Maa rules Planet Moon(Chandra) and is the Goddess of Swadhisthana Chakra or Sacral Chakra. Focusing on the Swadhisthana Chakra on the 2nd Navratri pooja strengthens the Chakra and brings the blessings of Brahmacharini Maa.
