The word “Pran” means life or the vital force behind existence, and “Prathistha” means infusion. So Pran Pratishtha of Rudraksha means infusing life force into Rudraksha.

Rudraksha is derived from two words, “Rudra” and “Aksha”, which means the tears of Bhagwan Shiva. Being an offering from Bhagwan Shiva himself, Rudraksha is full of divine energy and does not require consecration. Blessed by the cosmic union of Shiva and Shakti in the form of mother earth, it channels their yog or union, providing spiritual protection and inner awakening. Each bead resonates with its own unique frequency, which balances Chakras through resonance, nurturing the soul on its journey towards enlightenment. Usually, Pran Pratishtha Consecration is performed for objects and materials that are inanimate, to convert them into objects of Worship or Veneration, like brass or marble idols. Sacred items like Rudraksha and Shaligram do not need Pran Pratishtha because of its already existing cosmic powers. Pran Pratishtha is a ritual that is detailed and should be done with precision and full devotion. Rudraksha beads can be energized on any day. However, Mondays and days like Mahashivratri or Masik Shivratri, Shravan Maas, Shravan Somvar, Poornima (Full Moon Day) and Amavasya (New Moon Day) are also considered highly auspicious to energize a Rudraksha bead.

Note: You should not condition your Rudraksha in ghee, milk for 24 hours which has been popularized by internet gurus, no shastra mentions anything like that, in fact it will increase chances of Rudraksha being infected by insects, pests and molds.

Gangajal (Ganga Water Mixed with Regular Water in a 1:9 ratio)

Choose an auspicious day and time for this puja, preferably a Monday.

After bath, with a pure mind arrange the items for the puja. Sit on an Asan Facing East Direction.

Perform Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breaths) & Meditate to Purify your mind & thoughts

Place the Rudraksha Beads or Combination on a Puja Thali decorated With Peepal Leaves

Pour Some Gangajal on the Rudraksha Beads

Using Kusha Grass sprinkle Gangajal on yourself and your surroundings while chanting Pavitrikaran Mantra

'Om Apavitrah Pavitro Va Sarva Vastan Gatopi Va

Yah Smaret Pundari Kaksham Sa Bahya Bhyantarah Shuchih'

Translation:

May all things unholy become holy, may all lower tendencies depart, just as soon as we transcend may within and without be purified!

Bhave Bhavenaati Bhave Bhavasvamaam Bhavodbhavay Namaha

Translation:

I take refuge in the First Born, verily I bow to the First Born

Do not consign me to birth after birth;

Guide me beyond birth, I bow to the Causer of birth.

Chant the Vāmadeva Mantra

Om Vamdevaya Namah, Jyeshthaay Namah, Shreshthay Namah, Rudraay Namah, Kaalay Namah ,Kala Vikarannaay Namah, Bal Vikaranaay Namah, Balaay Namah Bala Pramathanaay Namah, Sarva Bhoot Damanaay Namah, Manomanaay Namah.

Translation:

I bow to the Noble One, the Eldest; to the Best, to Rudra and to Time,
I bow to the Incomprehensible, to Strength,
To the Causer of various forces, and to the Extender of Strength.
I bow to the Subduer of all beings, and to the One who kindles the Light.

Chant the Aghora Mantra

'Om Aghorebhyo Ghorebhyo Ghor Ghor Tarebhayaha

Sarvebhya Sarva Sharvvebhyo Namaste Astu Rudra Roopebhyaha'

Translation:

I bow to those not fierce and those who are fierce,

And to those who are both fierce and not fierce.

Everywhere and always, Śarva, I bow to all Thy Rudra forms.

Chant the Rudra Gayatri Mantra

'Om Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe Mahadevaay Dheemahi

Tanno Rudraha Prachodayaat'

Translation:

May we know that Supreme Person

And mediate on that Great God,

May Rudra impel us!

Chant the Isana Mantra

Om īśāna Sarvavidyaanam Eeshwar Sarvabhootaanaam

Brahmaadipati Brahmanaadhipati Brahma Shivome Astu Sadaa Shivom

Translation:

Ruler of all knowledge, Master of all beings,

Commander of all study and devotion,

That God Auspicious to me,

Translation:

We pray The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is fragrant and who increasingly nourishes the devotees. Worshipping him may we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe cucumber easily separates itself from the binding stalk.
