Participate in Surya Homatamak Mahapuja on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti (14th January 2025) and get blessings of Success, Prosperity, Health, and Auspiciousness at the beginning of the New Year.
Rudra Centre Puja Services is celebrating Makar Sankranti, the festival of the Sun, in a grand way with Mahapuja in the holy city of Trimbakeshwar, which is home to the revered Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga. On this day, people worship Surya Devta, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Mahalakshmi. According to the legend, Goddess Mahalaxmi chose Lord Vishnu as Her consort during the churning of the oceans (Sagar Manthan) on Makar Sankranti. This day marks the beginning of the Uttarayan period, when the Sun God moves into the Capricorn zodiac sign (ruled by Saturn) and starts His northward journey, which lasts for about six months.
This transit holds great celestial and spiritual significance, as it symbolizes the end of enmity between the Sun and Saturn, representing the resolution of contrasting energies. In Vedic astrology, the Sun signifies authority and ego, while Saturn represents humility and discipline. Their alignment in Capricorn is seen as a harmonious union, fostering balance and positivity. This day also signifies the spreading of sweetness and light, which is why devotees exchange sesame and jaggery and other items to honor this divine harmony.
Lord Surya, the Sun God, is worshipped as the great benefactor on this day. Makar Sankranti also signifies the end of the winter season and the beginning of spring, for which people express their thankfulness to the Sun God. As the preceding months are considered inauspicious, sacred and auspicious rituals can commence from this day.
The Homa ritual is a sacred Vedic fire ceremony that involves offering various substances into a consecrated fire while reciting specific prayers and mantras. In the context of prayers to the Sun, the Homa ritual includes offerings of ghee, grains, 108 herbs, and other items aimed at seeking the Sun's benevolent and protective presence, as well as fostering inner illumination, vitality, and spiritual growth. This ritual is a profound homage to the Sun as a symbol of divine light, energy, and consciousness in the Vedic tradition.
The Sun, also known as Surya or Aditya, is a primary deity in Hinduism. He is worshipped as Surya Narayana for good health, vitality, prosperity, and success, as he is a source of light, warmth, and life. The worship of the Sun is deeply rooted in Hindu culture and rituals, with dedicated prayers and hymns that express reverence and gratitude for the blessings that the Sun brings. The Sun is associated with knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment. By offering prayers and meditating on the Sun, devotees can attain spiritual and physical well-being, as well as clarity of mind and a deeper understanding of life.
From a spiritual perspective, Makar Sankranti holds great significance. It is believed to be an auspicious time for spiritual growth and enlightenment. According to Hindu mythology, it is on this day that the gods wake up from their six-month-long slumber. Devotees take ritualistic baths in holy rivers such as the Ganges, Yamuna, and Godavari to cleanse themselves of sins and attain spiritual purification.
The festival also has celestial significance as it marks the shift of the sun into the northern hemisphere, bringing about longer days and the promise of warmer weather. This transition is seen as an opportunity for new beginnings and rejuvenation. This is the day of the year to offer your Sankalpa at the feet of the Lord for its fulfillment.
